Topic: How did I join IRC Chat? (Read 886 times)

I am basically computer illiterate enough that I should not even be trying to handle this atm, but whenever I attempt to join the ashtray IRC chat from the app provided from the forum itself, I fail and get the following:

"Startup error : java.lang.Exception: Mandatory 'name' parameter not provided"

I can't make enough sense of the main site's "Index of /irc" page to know what's up. Do I need to find something else fundamental to chat applications in order to enter this chat room? I have somehow never really had this problem stumbling my way into other chat applications.

I was going to originally suggest that perhaps Java was blocked by either your browser or if you have anti-virus resident protection, but I get the same error.

I am going to assume that it's not setup properly.

Your best bet would be to go download the Chatzilla Plugin for Firefox - that is assuming you have Firefox.

It'll automatically install the plugin and you'll have to restart Firefox (it'll reopen all your tabs and such for you).

Goto Tools > Chatzilla

It'll open it up, etc and in the text bar at the bottom type

/nick REgentleman

/server raven.serenia.net

/join #TheAshtray

And there you are.

And, the C in "IRC" stands for chat=3

I was under the impression it stood for "Internet Relay Cockmongers", but I suppose you could be correct.

Your BEST best bet is to download mIRC (or another IRC client), join a serenia server, then join #theashtray.

I find Chatzilla to be generally more user freindly, in comparison to mIRC.
